For the past year or more, observers of the developing Southern Cone gas scene have been keeping a wary eye on plans to build two gas pipelines and a power transmission line from Argentina to Chile's Atacama desert mining region. If all three go ahead, the area could end up with twice as much supply as it needs, wreaking havoc on prices and project profitability.
And the same thing could now be happening on the Atlantic coast, as companies push ahead with plans to build at least three gas pipelines converging from the north, south and west on the Brazilian coastal city of Porto Alegre.
