Summary: The European Commission has finally reacted to the chorus of appeals from lobby groups and Governments alike to impose a ban on the use of certain antibiotics in animal feed (see last issue of European Report) and has made a proposal to the Standing Committee on Animal Nutrition meeting on November 12/13 to ban four types of antibiotics. The Standing Committee will only discuss the proposal at this meeting and is expected to vote on it at a later date (possibly in December).
In announcing the proposal on November 12, a spokesman for the Commission said the ban would affect four types of antibiotics (Bacitracin Zinc, Spiramycin, Virginiamycin, Tylosin ...
