NEW YORK _ Thirty-six years old and still the funniest musical comedy ever written, ``Little Me'' is almost unstoppable in its ability to entertain. Nevertheless, and despite the fact that it is sending 1998 audiences into squeals of giddy laughter, the current Broadway revival is a mostly misfired effort, a frenetic affair that gets by on star Martin Short's likability and the strength of the original songs and script.
``Little Me'' is based on the comic novel by Patrick Dennis, which recounts the adventures of Belle Poitrine. She is a busty beauty who rises from the wrong side of the tracks in Venezuela, Ill., to become a woman of wealth, culture and social ...
