On December 13, the last day of AVA's annual convention in New Orleans, the Assembly of Delegates will vote on whether to change the association's name to Association for Career and Technical Education. A two-thirds vote is needed to change the name.
I and the rest of AVA's Board of Directors support the name change. As a vocational educator and longtime member of AVA, I know what "vocational" means. And I know it may be hard to endorse a name change when you have such passion and dedication for an organization you have belonged to for so many years. But when I hear other educators say they simply will not join an association named "vocational," I know it's time ...
