This interesting and enlightening study stems from the author's Doctoral Thesis on "the prophetic role of George Orwell in foreseeing many of the issues which constitute the political correctness debate as it had been conducted in recent years" (16). The controversy, Gomis observes, had been fought primarily on American university campuses, a significant arena in a country where fifty percent of the population goes to college.
