This book is an unchanged reprint of the 1972 original edition published by Doubleday. Although Silverberg names his sources in the text, customary notes are dispensed with and the bibliography ought to have been updated. Yet the reissue of this very readable account with its useful illustrations, must be welcomed. As an archeology of the myth of Prester John, it makes available an interesting as well as important chapter in the history of western civilisation.
