Dec. 1 -- The boards of Exxon and Mobil may consider a $75 billion merger as early as today that would create a worldwide energy colossus but could result in thousands of layoffs.
Neither company said anything yesterday, five days after first word of the merger began leaking. Exxon is based in Irving, where it has a headquarters staff of about 375. Mobil has a regional headquarters in Dallas with about 2,000 workers.
The boards of both companies are scheduled to meet today. A merger proposal is expected to be presented to the boards, Bloomberg News reported, quoting an unidentified person familiar with the ...
