AN OVERVIEW
The Midwest contains two of the greatest concentrations of zinc and lead in the world. These are the Tri-State district of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri and the world-class Viburnum Trend of southeastern Missouri. Deposits in both of these districts are of the Mississippi Valley-type (MVT). Such districts have a number of characteristics in common:
* The host rock is dolomitized limestone.
* The mining district is on a dome or arch.
* Mineralization is confined to stratigraphic units.
* Temperature of mineralization was 100 [degrees] -200 [degrees] C.
