The complex pegmatites of Southern California have been famous throughout this century for their production of gem minerals, including tourmaline, kunzite, beryl, topaz, and spessartine garnet. While districts such as Pala, Ramona, and Mesa Grande in San Diego County are famous among collectors worldwide, the pegmatites of Riverside County, which make up the northern limits of the Southern California pegmatite province, are less well known.
