New Law Will Prevent Repeat Performance

Stuttgart Regional Medical Center may have had the best one-year turnaround of any hospital in the state last year, but the facility's administrator has no illusions that it will happen again.

"We were lucky that year," says Jim Bushmiaer, who has been administrator in Stuttgart for 20 years. "Everything went right for us."

Stuttgart Regional had net income of a little more than $1 million in 1997, a five-fold increase over 1996 profits of $205,000.

Stuttgart Regional is ranked as the 34th most profitable hospital in the state, according to Arkansas Business' semiannual ranking of hospitals. ...
