Summary: The Council of Social Affairs Ministers of the European Union, on December 2, failed to reach agreement on the involvement of workers in the European Company. Spain's opposition to the compromise proposal drawn up by the Austrian Presidency blocked any consensus of the Member States on the intractable European Company Statute dossier which has been on the Council's negotiating table for the past 25 years.
