Sammy Sosa may not have had the most home runs this season, but his season was incredible enough to lead the Chicago Cubs to the playoffs and land him the National League MVP award by a landslide.
In 30 of the 32 votes cast, Sosa received a first-place nod, and he got a total of 438 points in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
Mark McGwire, who broke the regular season home-run record first and totaled 70 homers for the season, came in second.
"He's still the man," Sosa said of McGwire. "He had a great year, about the same year I had. He did unbelievable, but I took my team to the playoffs. That counts a lot ... It's hard ...
