Premier Gary Filmon today announced Julian Benson, secretary to treasury board, yesterday submitted a letter of retirement effective immediately.

Benson, 65, who has held his current position since 1991, cited the difficulty of performing his very onerous duties through the current budget process while needing time to respond to the matters raised in the course of the Monnin Inquiry and attending to family responsibilities.
