I am very pleased to report that a new Materials Chemistry Division has recently been formed after ratification by the CIC board, as well as the Boards of the three Constituent Societies (CSC, CSChE, and CSCT).
The first symposium of this Division - a four day symposium entitled 'Thin Films and Materials Technology' - will be held at the Toronto CSC meeting from May 30 - June 2, 1999.
It is the intent of this article to describe: 1). the background to the formation of this new Division, and 2). the nature and philosophy of the 1999 CSC symposium.
