Asda has won its high court Parma ham appeal in the ongoing battle with Consorzio del Prosciutto di Parma.
The ham producers were adamant Asda couldn't name its ham Parma for though produced in Italy according to specific local provisions, the ham had been sliced and packaged in the UK.
The court agreed the law does not prevent Asda from slicing and packaging genuine Parma ham in the UK and passing the savings on to shoppers.
Deputy trading director Justin King said: "There is no doubt we sell the finest Parma Ham, imported directly from the Parma region of Italy.
