CHICAGO _ Members of an African-American family said Tuesday they were shocked and humiliated when white workers at a Pizza Hut in Godfrey, Ill., used racial slurs against them, refused to wait on them and threatened them in the parking lot after they left the restaurant.
``When you go out to eat, you expect to be treated like a person,'' said Mary Ann Burton, one of the family members. ``I was really upset, but I tried to keep calm ... to make sure it didn't get out of hand.''
Burton and her relatives later sued Pizza Hut, charging, among other things, that the pizza chain had civil liability for alleged hate crimes committed by its employees. On ...
