In this printmaking project, which is suitable for any grade level, my kindergarten class used one original cardboard collage, with surface texture, as a plate for several multiple-image techniques--crayon rubbing, embossing, and printing.
Making the cardboard collage was the first step. I described this as a "picture you could feel with your fingers instead of seeing with your eyes." The base was a small square of poster board or mat board. Cardboard shapes up to three layers thick were glued to the base to create the composition.
