David Cope's Techniques of the Contemporary Composer is a thoroughly reworded and updated version of his earlier New Music Composition (New York: Schirmer Books, 1977). Its new, smaller format creates problems with the layout of some of the music examples (most of which were written by the author himself), though they now look better than the earlier hand-drawn versions. The content of the text remains largely the same, emphasizing music of the postwar avant garde.
