Jan. 11 -- Banking in Central Texas has undergone major changes in the past year with the big banks getting bigger and the small banks getting smaller. By mid-year 1999, Central Texas will be left with the two merged giants and two other large national banks in Chase Bank of Texas and Bank One. The layers under them will include the branching networks of three regional banks; two locally based, mid-sized community banks; and a hodgepodge of small locally based community banks.
