With the increasing growth of the internet and the desire of the business world to use it for electronic commerce, encryption is a necessity for security.
The government is preparing to regulate electronic commerce and legislation is expected for this in 1999. The government is concerned because fraud is potentially easier across the internet since it might be achieved without leaving any trace.
Without an environment of trust and privacy, customers are highly unlikely to provide confidential information such as credit card numbers.
