Jan. 20 -- Yesterday was the third anniversary of the worst oil spill in Rhode Island's history. It didn't go unnoticed by the Rhode Island Lobstermen's Association.
At a news conference on the steps of the federal courthouse, the group announced it has filed a $40-million lawsuit in U.S. District Court against Eklof Marine Corp. and others responsible for the ecological disaster.
Although Eklof has agreed to pay $9.5 million in fines and compensation for damage that resulted from the oil spill, the lobstermen are not receiving any of that money. The beneficiaries of that penalty, which was imposed after ...
