Jan. 24 -- DANA POINT, Calif. -- Donn Dill spent nearly three years trying to find the perfect yacht for the job. Not too big, not too slow and not too old.
His search led him to Maine, where the 75-foot Sea Bird Watcher, which had taken passengers along the Atlantic coast to Florida, was for sale. The San Clemente native and his business partners scraped the ugly stickers off the yacht's sides, repainted and repaired it, and spent $38,000 sailing it to Dana Point Harbor.
Amid high hopes and big business plans, the Catalina Explorer coasted into the marina Nov. 22.
It hasn't moved much since.
