Compagne Industriali Riunite SpA (CIR) is acquiring the Italian sugar-free sweetener and candy brands of Novartis AG for $107 million. The brands generated 1997 sales of 107 million Swiss francs. The agreement also includes related factories and calls for CIR to distribute some of Novartis' nutrition products in Italy.
Embotelladora Andina SA, Chile's biggest Coca-Cola bottler, agreed to buy back the 49% stake it does not already own in a Chilean bottler Vital SA from Coca-Cola Co., Atlanta, GA. Andina sold the stake to Coca-Cola in 1996 for about $28 million. In turn, Coca-Cola will take over all marketing of the drinks.
