Jan. 28 -- INTEL BACKS SAN JOSE IN CULTURE CLASH: There's been another round in the sophistication sweepstakes, the sometimes tiresome fight between San Jose's burgeoning cultural institutions and San Francisco's established arts community.

Only this time, the chip set from down south won. Not because Silicon Valley has the cultural vibrance of Baghdad by the Bay. That may never happen. But in a place where they make millionaires by the week, Silicon Valley's creating a community of people with money to spend on the arts. And San Francisco is coming to depend on it.
