``The Man Who Came to Dinner'' (1941), based on the classic Broadway comedy by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, is about celebrated lecturer and radio personality Sheridan Whiteside (Monty Woolley), who, while on a lecture tour in Ohio, injures his hip on the doorstep of a leading family (Billie Burke and Grant Mitchell) who had invited him to dinner.
