Jan. 30 -- Amtrak, the nation's passenger train service, has committed $2 million to eventually return its rail operation to the renovated Union Station.
Station redevelopers still need to raise an additional $3 million in construction costs, so an Amtrak move won't coincide with the station's reopening this fall. In fact, there is no timetable for Amtrak to move back into the station from its hut under the Main Street bridge.
Amtrak earmarked the money in its budget as part of a $25 million modernization effort in the Midwest. The money will help defray the estimated $5 million cost of refurbishing space ...
