MILAN -- Antonio D'Amico, Gianni Versace's longtime companion, spent 13 years with the Versace clan, designing the Istante collection and supervising ballet-related events. So it might be logical to think D'Amico would have embraced the Versace esthetic of high-voltage glitz and glamour.
But that is not the case.
D'Amico, who will launch his first men's and women's collection with a runway show (at 9 p.m., Jan. 11) staged by young multimedia artist Robert Gligorov, said his fashion approach is simple and refined. In other words, no sheer, no garish prints, no ripped and zipped leathers or in-your-face sex.
