Summary:A new row is brewing between the EU Council of Ministers and the European Commission over the future regime governing pensions for European civil servants. On the one hand, the Council wants to see a gradual increase in the rate of social security contribution by EU officials from the current 8.25%, so as to avoid higher national contributions. The Commission, on the other hand, hiding behind a study carried out, at the request of the European Parliament and the Council by the Dutch subsidiary of the big audit firm KPMG, seems to prefer a completely different option.
