Feb. 10 -- Movie critic Roger Ebert reminisced in one of his books about cruising for chicks in the parking lot of his hometown's Steak n Shake in the 1950s.

More than 40 years later, customers still flock to the restaurant, though the elimination of curb service more than two decades ago means it no longer is a hotspot for cruising.

In most ways, though, Steak n Shake restaurants remain remarkably similar to what they were when the first Steak n Shake opened in Normal, Ill., 65 years ago this month.

And that's fine with customers.
