Feb. 11 -- The Coffee Plantation has been sold to a coffeehouse company whose aggressive expansion plans could bring Arizona dozens of new places to get a jolt of java.
Diedrich Coffee Inc. of Irvine, Calif., says it signed a $35 million deal to buy Coffee People Inc., the Beaverton, Ore., company that owns Coffee Plantation, Gloria Jean's, and the Coffee People stores.
Diedrich apparently won't change the Coffee Plantation name or make big changes in the format of the stores that introduced many in Arizona to the notion of paying for coffee with dollars instead of dimes.
