Feb. 19 -- Plagued by advertising-heavy, mirror-named competition and changes in Downtown business demographics, 73-year-old American Furniture Co. is going out of business.

Mark Casack and Jim Pappas who only 7 1/2 years ago bought the Main Street store from relatives of the company's founder, the late Sam Winer, said the opening of the big box American Furniture Warehouse store on the North Side has caused untold confusion.
