With USDA's proposed red meat irradiation regulation comes a host of questions before acceptance, let alone application, can take place. Calling irradiation another tool to improve food safety, Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman said: "When it comes to food safety, there is no silver bullet.... But, used in conjunction with other science-based prevention efforts, irradiation can provide consumers with an added measure of protection."
