STRENGTHS
The region has helped create a new image for French white wines in the past decade. The south west corner of France continues to be the most reliable source of white wine. Vin de pays has doubled in importance over the last five years.
WEAKNESSES
It still produces large volumes of anonymous white table wine, mostly used by merchants for cheap plonk in Calais hypermarkets. The lack of substantial plantings of red grape vines could prove restrictive.
