Few trout fishermen consider winter a favorite season, but somehow February always seems infinitely better than the cold, short days of January. The heavy hatches of spring seem closer. Greenup can't be far away. And mixed with the raw, snowy ones, there will be days that bring a hint of warmth.
In truth, flyfishing can be surprisingly rewarding now. Water temperatures are often slightly higher than in January, leading to increased insect and fish activity. And streams still run low and clear, unclouded by spring rains and snow-melt.
