Although many small kitchen electric products have reached the point of market saturation, makers of bread machines find that there's plenty of room for their category to grow.
Illustrating its growth potential, bread machines are in only about 18 percent of American homes today.
However, new research by HFN and interviews with retailers and manufacturers show that the bread machine category is losing rather than gaining market share. HFN's preliminary report reveals a significant drop in retail sales and in units shipped during 1998, down from an estimated $350 million during 1997 (The full report will be released in HFN's annual State of the Industry ...
