SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 10, 1999--Sony (NYSE:SNE) has selected a Yamaha high-end sound chip, the YMF724, for their new Pentium III class Slimtop computers.

The Yamaha YMF724 3D PCI digital audio controller chip features XG wavetable sound in hardware, with 64 notes of polyphony. The Sony VAIO(R) computers emphasize multimedia and boast "convergence -- an empowering blend of audio, video and information technologies."
