More than 900 clergy, including 130-some Roman Catholic and Protestant bishops, have called on President Clinton and the U.S. government to press the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority to end what the religious leaders said is violations of the fights of Palestinians. The human rights petition asks President Clinton to "publicly urge Israel and the Palestinian Authority to abide by international law and human fights conventions" and to link U.S. financial aid to Israel and the Palestinian Authority to their "compliance with human rights covenants."
