Summary:A Code of Conduct for European civil servants was due to be approved on March 9 by the European Commission. The aim of the Code is to establish a professional ethical framework to act as a guide for all members of staff as they carry out their duties. This applies both to internal relations and contacts with individuals from outside the institution. The proposal is supposed to help explain provisions in the rules of service for civil servants as well as other agents of the European Community, including local agents, national experts on secondment, private contractors, individuals taking part in work experience projects and temporary workers.
