Mar. 10 -- A decision by Royal Ahold, the parent company of Tops Markets Inc., to establish a central accounting office for its U.S. operations will eliminate 135 Tops jobs.
Tops' Dutch parent company announced plans Tuesday to combine the accounting functions of its five U.S. supermarket chains into a single financial services center located in Carlisle, Pa. The new Ahold Financial Services office will begin operations late next year.
Steve Odland, president and chief executive officer of Amherst-based Tops Markets Inc., confirmed the job cuts at Tops headquarters.
