Debate is underway in state legislatures across the country over efforts to place regulations on discounted sales of structured settlements.
The American Insurance Association has targeted 18 states for lobbying efforts on the structured settlement issue this year, the Washington-based group said.
Proposals for restrictions on the transfer of structured settlements in many cases pits the AIA, the Alliance of American Insurers, the National Structured Settlement Trade Association and other advocates of tighter regulation against the National Association of Settlement Purchasers and the factoring (settlement purchasing) firm of J.G.
