Mar. 11 -- The U.S. Forest Service has launched an internal investigation into whether Winema National Forest officials violated federal conflict of interest laws or acted improperly before approving a ski resort on Pelican Butte north of Klamath Falls.
A Forest Service ranger who served as the president of the Klamath Falls Chamber of Commerce is the main focus of the probe, Winema officials confirmed Wednesday. The ranger, Rob Shull, took a free ride to Utah last year on the corporate jet owned by Jeld-Wen, the company that wants to build the $37 million ski resort.
