Early in his management career, John Hawkins learned that giving his employees more responsibility and trusting their decisions usually produces positive results.
In one of his first jobs out of business school, the CEO for Cloud 9 Shuttle was working as branch manager of a savings and loan when several of his staff informed him of a decision they made together, without his direction.
"Some of my staff came in and told me, 'Well, we made this decision because we knew this was what you would have wanted to do.' ... I said this is the perfect decision and [would have never thought of it.'"
