The Supreme Court, in Writ Petition No. 314/94, has passed an Interim Order on 18th February 1999, permitting to raise the Sardar Sarovar Dam upto EL 85 Metre excluding humps required for the safety to the Dam. The Government of Gujarat has accordingly resumed the work on Sardar Sarovar Dam from 19th February, 1999.
Construction work of Sardar Sarovar Project was started on 24th April, 1987 at the approved estimated cost of Rs. 6,406.04 crores (1986-87 price-level).
