Technological advances that have reduced the cost of electricity generated from windplants have enabled the wind-power industry to expand from California into the eastern United States and Canada (Nelson and Curry 1995). Wind power has received strong public support as an alternative energy source despite the potential threats that the presence of wind turbines may pose to avian species.
