Sixteen of the 20 areas offered for exploration by foreign companies were divided into two groups. (The onshore and offshore fields on offer are listed in Part Two, in next week's Review). The Dara block, an extensive onshore/offshore exploration area in the northern part of the Gulf, was given to Saga Petroleum in July 1998 for joint study with NIOC under a 12-month accord.
