Mar. 30 -- An emergency trunk release will be standard equipment on the 2000 Taurus -- and on every other 2000-model passenger car sold by Ford Motor Co. in the United States and Canada.
Children and kidnap victims have died in locked car trunks for years, but the deaths of 11 children in car-trunk accidents last summer prompted auto companies to develop escape methods that could be widely available.
