Basic bread consists of nothing more than flour, water, and a little salt, with or without a leavening agent. None of the other ingredients usually found in most modern recipes -- milk, eggs, fat, sweeteners, etc. -- are essential. On the contrary, for true bread lovers who want the full flavor of the wheat to come through, those additions only get in the way.
Commonly, bread is made using two or three parts of flour to one part of water.
