Mar. 29 -- Four years after launching the latest version of its venerable C-130 cargo plane, Lockheed Martin's Marietta division is still struggling to generate a steady stream of orders.
The company now is mounting a vigorous lobbying campaign on behalf of the C-130J, warning of big layoffs in Cobb County if the U.S. government doesn't step up purchases.
The government has bought 35 of the updated airlifters so far, but the Clinton administration isn't asking for any more in the spending year that begins Oct. 1.
