Mar. 29 -- It is intriguing that on the day BP Amoco confirmed it was in talks with Arco, reports emerged indicating that Glaxo Wellcome has failed to consummate a merger with Bristol Myers Squibb.
All the signs are that BP Amoco will unveil the details of its deal within days, the second major coup for chief executive Sir John Browne.
Glaxo, in the same period, has now failed twice to join forces with a partner, the first time being the still much-lamented tie-up with Smith-Kline Beecham. It remains unclear whether Glaxo or SmithKline was more to blame for the demise of that. SmithKline, in turn, is also a ...
