After spending a year studying and debating how it can get more efficient delivery of coal to its White Bluff generating plant at Redfield, Entergy Corp. officials say they may build a $20 million-$40 million rail line spur that would connect to Pine Bluff.
Union Pacific Corp. has been the sole supplier of coal to the generating plant since its merger of Southern Pacific Rail Corp. in 1996. However, since that merger, Union Pacific has been suffering from severe disruptions in its rail line, causing near gridlock throughout the nation's shipping system in 1997-98.
